While the Thompson Rivers University Faculty Association (TRUFA) and Thompson Rivers University (TRU) have agreed to private mediation, many students are still in the dark on the what could possibly happen to their academic semester.
TRUFA issued a 72-hour strike notice to the administration on Monday which could lead to job action by Thursday. Despite agreeing on private mediation, TRUFA have refused to hold off on any job actions or prior notice of strike actions.
“I think students are looking for all of the information they can get from the Student Union and we’ll be doing everything we can to relay that information to them,” Thompson Rivers University Student Union (TRUSU) President Melissa Gordon said.
As posted on the TRUSU website, the result of a job action “could be small disruptions of the administrative operations of the other party, or full-scale strike or lockout that would shut down all or most University operations.”
Neither the student body nor TRUSU have legal standing in the negotiation, but Gordon says the union will work hard at communicating any new information if they should receive it.
“We would like to see a quick resolution to this dispute,” said Gordon. “We are encouraging both parties to work together to settle this dispute with as little disruption to students and their families as possible.”
