Hello friends!
Happy 2019!
Hope you all had an amazing holiday season. If you have children in school enjoy this last weekend before they head back. Time goes by way too fast as well all know. A friendly reminder to embrace it.
I know we’ve chatted about goals before, but let’s revisit them. Where are you at? What are you wellness goals?
Please, can we stop referring to it as weight loss.
Maintaining a healthy weight is important, gaining and losing too fast is unhealthy on both sides. Reaching and maintaining is ideal. While the reaching can be tricky, as we want results NOW, patience and consistency will get you there. There is no such thing as spot reducing.
Yes, you can isolate muscles by performing certain movements but that doesn’t mean the fat loss will come just to that area.
The saying, ‘abs are made in the kitchen’ is true. We all come with a set of washboard abs… yes, all of us, they are very useful for everyday living! Some people are just leaner and they’re more visible, that’s all.
That being said, what does your nutrition look like? What are your goals here? The word ‘diet’ truly is a four-letter word in my opinion. Although by definition: DIET: ‘the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.'
So when we think of our diet, it’s just what we ingest regularly. If we enjoy food at its finest and most perfect… it’s real nutrition. The stuff that makes us a well-functioning human. There is no magic here, and again.. we all know this.
Meal prep is actually fun when you get into it. Set aside sometime in a day (Sunday works good for most families) get the kids involved if they take lunches to school.
Even prep an after-school snack for when they come home ‘hangry’ and tired so there’s something quick and viable to keep them going until dinner. One thing I think we could implement more in the classroom is hydration. Kids should be encouraged to drink water regularly during the day.
The afternoon lulls aren’t just from a lack of nutritious foods it’s partially dehydration! Yes, they will need a hall pass for the bathroom more often, but maybe designated bathroom breaks are in order, so they can create lasting, healthy routines.
That old hockey quote comes to mind when I think of goal setting… ‘you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.'
So shoot away! No, you won’t get a goal every time, but your odds sure increase if you at least shoot to score!
My goal for 2019 is pretty basic but hard for me. I tend to immerse myself in one area, so I want to be more consistent with my variety of physical activity.
One day weight training, one day yoga, one day endurance cardio training and repeat… everyday meditation and self-reflection. No, I don’t typically take a ‘rest’ day. It’s usually active recovery… like walking the dogs or hiking with a friend.
JUST KEEP MOVING! You are worth the effort!
It doesn’t matter when you decide to let go of toxic habits; you’re the only one who knows what they are. It could be a Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
It doesn’t need to be a Monday or a new year. Just value your health enough to make it a priority as consistently as you can… your health and vitality will shift.
Slowly but surely, it will happen…trust it. It’s your life… it’s waiting… LIVE IT NOW!
