A popular B.C. music festival is taking a year off.
Tall Tree Music Festival in Port Renfrew announced on Wednesday that they would be taking the year off to regroup, which means no 2018 festival.
“Producing a festival is a very hard thing to do at the best of times,” said a release from festival organizers. “Festivals across B.C. have struggled in recent years with a low Canadian dollar and market over-saturation, which has made an already tough financial climate even tougher.”
The small Vancouver-island festival is almost entirely run by volunteers, but even with that massive effort “the numbers have continually struggled to add up.”
According to organizers, in its eight-year history, Tall Tree has failed to make a profit once.
The festival, which has boasted bands like Mother Mother, Yukon Blonde, Current Swell, Hollerado, Tokyo Police Club and The Zolas, hopes to return in 2019.
