Drivers travelling the Interior mountain passes Sunday should use caution, as heavy snow is expected to blanket the roads.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) from Hope to Merritt, as well as the Hope/Princeton via Allison Pass (Highway 3).
Along the Coquihalla, 15 to 25 centimeters of snow is expected to fall. Environment Canada said the snowfall will begin Sunday afternoon and will accumulate throughout the evening and overnight.
The same is predicted for Highway 3 for drivers travelling through Allison Pass. Up to 25 centimeters of snow is expected to fall before easing Monday morning.
Environment Canada said the winter weather is caused by a low pressure system that is moving over Southern BC Sunday.
Drivers heading onto the roads are being reminded to prepare for quickly changing weather conditions. Those getting behind the wheel should remember to maintain a safe following distance and drive for the conditions they are facing.
Those heading onto the highways are encouraged to check DriveBC for up-to-date road conditions.
