Kelowna based low-cost carrier Flair Airlines increasing fleet

A Kelowna based airline continues to make moves in the low-cost air carrier industry.

After absorbing discount airline company NewLeaf in June, Flair Airlines has announced it will be increasing its fleet by 40%.

“By April 2018 Flair Airlines will be servicing the Canadian ULCC market in earnest with a total of seven B737-400s throughout our existing and future route network, “ said Chris Lapointe, VP, Commercial Operations for Flair Airlines in press release.

“Currently we operate between two and four aircrafts in the market, this addition will increase seat capacity significantly.”

The move comes after WestJet announced plans to launch its own budget airline called Swoop by June of 2018.

“We are gearing up for a busy 2018 season by completing maintenance inspections and aircraft rebranding this winter,” said Flair Airlines CEO Jim Rogers. “We are continually analyzing cost-saving measures to keep our prices low.”

Flair Airline currently services Abbotsford, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton and Halifax.

It plans to expand to Kelowna, Vancouver and Toronto in mid-December.
