Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods Market will become official on Monday, August 28th, and customers will notice some positive changes.
“The two companies will together pursue the vision of making Whole Foods Market’s high-quality, natural and organic food affordable for everyone,” said a release from Amazon. “Starting Monday, Whole Foods Market will offer lower prices on a selection of best-selling staples across its stores, with much more to come.”
In addition to lower prices, technology teams will begin to integrate Amazon Prime into the Whole Foods point-of-sale system.
When this is complete, Amazon Prime will become Whole Foods’ point system and Prime members will receive special savings and in-store benefits.
“Everybody should be able to eat Whole Foods Market quality – we will lower prices without compromising Whole Foods Market’s long-held commitment to the highest standards,” said Jeff Wilke, CEO of Amazon. “And this is just the beginning – we will make Amazon Prime the customer rewards program at Whole Foods Market and continuously lower prices as we invent together.”
Another change, or addition, is that Whole Foods’ private label products will now be available to order online through Amazon.
There will also be Amazon Lockers in select Whole Foods stores, where customers can have products shipped from Amazon.com to their local store.
John Mackey will remain on as CEO of Whole Foods after the acquisition is made official and the company’s headquarters will remain in Austin, Texas.
