The global expansion continues for Tim Hortons.
This time, the coffee shop turned fast food restaurant is headed to China and they aren’t doing so lightly.
Over the next decade, Tim Hortons will open 1,500 stores in China, which was announced by the restaurant’s parent company, Restaurant Brands International, today.
“We have two main priorities at Tim Hortons: building and strengthening our brand in Canada; and expanding our iconic Canadian brand to the rest of the world,” said Alex Macedo, president of Tim Hortons.
“China’s population and vibrant economy represent an excellent growth opportunity for Tim Hortons in the coming years.”
Macedo explained that the company has already seen Canada’s Chinese community embrace Tim Hortons and the company is now seizing the opportunity to bring the brand overseas to China.
The expansion into China is a joint venture agreement between Tim Hortons and Cartesian Capital Group.
“We are excited to expand our partnership with Restaurant Brands International to bring Tim Hortons to China,” said Peter Yu, Managing Partner of Cartesian. “Tim Hortons has a long, rich history of providing guests with quality food and premium coffee.”
“We plan to expand that tradition to China, drawing on 20 years of experience building businesses in China and around the world.”
The coffee and beverage menu in China will be quite similar to the restaurant’s Canadian offerings, but the food options will be tailored to local tastes.
