What is your name?
Maeghan Summers
What do you always find yourself saying?
Take the time to lift someone up instead of putting them down.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Elton John, I am a huge fan! I know I am a bit young to be such a fan but I have always loved Yellow Brick Road. It would be such an escape to hang out with him for the day. I love listening to that album on vinyl after a long day at work.
If you were to receive any existing public award, what award would you like to win?
I would love to win an award that would recognize the efforts of our team at The Noble Pig Brewhouse. They work so hard and sharing the excitement with the team is always the best part.
If you could spend a day with any historical figure, who would you choose?
It would be amazing to spend the day with Amelia Earhart! Travelling the world would be amazing.
Who inspires you?
My family. They are all wonderful in their own unique way and remind me of where I come from and where I want to go.
What are three things on your bucket list?
I am always adding new things onto my list but the top three things would be...
1. Experience an African safari with family and then travel up to Egypt to see the pyramids.
2. Create a community event in Kamloops that showcases the many talented individuals in our restaurant and hospitality sector.
3. Travel across Canada in a small motor home from coast to coast.
Please tell us about a defining moment in your life.
The day I signed my contract as the Leadership Development Trainee of Delta Hotels and Resorts. That experience was amazing and helped to build my skills and change me to who I am today.
If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
Piglet:)
If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
I wouldn't want to see ahead. I enjoy taking each day as it comes.
What are you passionate about?
I am extremely passionate about food and beverage and the hospitality industry. I am grateful for being able to help train and develop team members. The skills that we learn in hospitality translate into any profession and it is so rewarding watching our past and present team grow.
What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
This will sound cliché but the day I married my husband. It was a great day.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
The day we became partners at the Noble Pig Brewhouse. We have always set big goals and to achieve this was so special. It was wonderful to see the hard work and dedication come full circle.
Where is your favourite place to dine in your city?
There are a lot of great places in the city to eat, so it is hard to pick just one. I would have to say downtown we enjoy Terra, Mittz Kitchen, and Brownstone when we can get out.
What is your favourite activity or event in your city?
Music in the park is so much fun. Such a great community event in the summer.

If you could achieve one thing within your field, what would it be?
I would love to continue to develop our team members and see them achieve their goals in this industry. It is the best part of my job!
Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
Still here and known as a local hot spot for great beer and food. Personally, we would like to operate a few more restaurants in the area that are all different styles.
Who do you consider to be a forerunner within your field?
There is not really any business that mirrors what we do. With that being said, Red Collar and Red Beard Cafe are amazing local beer spots!
What three qualities do you feel that your business/organization exemplifies?
1. Wonderful locally brewed craft beer.
2. Locally inspired cuisine that is prepared from scratch.
3. An approachable environment with sincere service.
What would you like to say to your employees/volunteers?
Every day I am thankful to wake up and be a part of a team that is incredible. I am forever thankful for all they do on a daily basis and it makes me proud to say we are more than just a job, we are a piglet family.
How does your business/organization impact the community?
We try to be a part of many locally run fundraisers or events that support the community we are in. One great example of this is with our Annual Brews and Blues event where we close for a fun filled evening that benefits the Kamloops Art Gallery.
What makes you successful? Tell us about it.
We have really tried to maintain our focus on what we call our four pillars of success. Quality beer, unique food, comfortable environment, and sincere service. In order to focus on all of those pillars, we have taken a different approach to marketing who we are, and instead of spending our marketing funds on traditional advertising, we invest that back into our team through training. Our 70 team members are what makes it possible for us to do what we do.
If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
Wonderful question! I would love for them to be experts in the restaurant industry and be able to ask questions about how they became who they are and what they did to achieve it. I would hope that they were chatty and the elevator was stuck a while.
If I could change one thing about the city you live in, it would be:
Kamloops is a great place to live and I would like to see the growth of our downtown core continue. There are so many wonderful stores, restaurants and activities to participate in, all downtown.
What do you think makes your city great?
I always say we are spoiled to live in Kamloops. We have plenty of great summer activities including golf, hiking, the parks, boating on the lake, or just sitting on a great patio enjoying a pint. During the winter, we have two great ski hills close by and lots of spots for ice fishing. I feel like there is always something to do in Kamloops.
My nomination for the the In Focus spotlight is:
David Beardsell from Red Collar
