Meet Crystal Derksen! Crystal is from Salmon Arm but has lived in Kamloops for over two years. She is a compassionate woman who enjoys fishing, hiking, and doing nails!
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
I am from Salmon arm and I have lived in Kamloops since April 1st, 2017.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My fiance and two daughters. They fill my heart with so much love and joy and if it wasn't for their support I wouldn't be doing what I love as an esthetician.
What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
West Coast beauty. They're always so kind and so helpful and they go above and beyond for their clientele!
Describe yourself in one word.
Compassionate
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
The beach!! Not much of a winter girl I love to get some sun and go camping and fishing and spending time outdoors! I love adventures!
What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
Kamloops pride parade! So much love and happiness!
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Playing with both my daughters at the beach and I got tickled on my toes and I pick up the boat floaty with both kids in it and booked it to the shore nearly crying lol.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Having my two daughters and showing them that at any time In life it's okay to change direction and to always follow your dreams because mommy has done just that and they got to see it all happen ❤.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I loved going to Victoria with my grandparents every Christmas and walking through the queen's palace and watching 3D movies at the IMAX and walking along the beach looking for seashells.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I actually volunteer my time through the business. Usually once or twice a month I will pick someone who has commented on my Instagram and will offer a free service because everyone deserves to be pampered and feel their best!
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I know this sounds so cliche but in the beauty world, I wish everyone would uplift each other and bring out the best in each other and encourage one another because that's how it should be.
Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
Fishing, hiking, or camping! Something about nature brings me to a calm relaxed happy place.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
More homeless shelters or more help with the homeless and I already am seeing a change in that department but they are the ones who need the change the most.
What do you think makes Kamloops great?
The community feels. To me I've always considered Kamloops a big city, considering I've lived most of my life in the sticks but as I lived here I realized Kamloops is more than that and I love all of the events in the park! It's great for families.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Take my kids to Disneyland! Buy a house! And live a fulfilling life, happy healthy with my family!
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I have suffered from PTSD and anxiety most of my life.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Facebook mostly.
What is the name of your business/organization?
Glamorous Esthetics.
Why did you get into/start this business?
I got into this business because after 10 long years of being married, I finally had found myself and with being a stay at home mom for 10 years and barely having an education, I needed to provide for my children and I love to make people happy.
What is the goal of your business?
To grow to be successful enough that my kids can carry on the business when I ready to retire.
What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Being too kind. Sometimes I don't know when to say no.
What do you always find yourself saying?
"Thank you!"

Live life like tomorrow is your last day and always love no matter what!
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
The owner of Ra because he is sooo inspiring!
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Puts money back into our city.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My business.

To my clients because without them I would not be where I am today!
