Meet David! He's a mortgage broker who was born in Kamloops, and is "a proud Kamloopsian through and through."
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
Originally born in Kamloops, I spent most of my school years growing up in the Nicola Valley and Merritt area. Happy to be back in Kamloops and call it home for the past 17 years now.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My partner Kait for sure! But our dog Tina is a close second. They both make me smile and laugh on the daily.
What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Although I do my best to support as many local businesses’ as I can, Chop N Block is one of my favourites at this moment. I love the fact that it is an artisan Butcher Shop that supports local and sustainable ranches and farms in the community.
Describe yourself in one word.
Persistent
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Iceland! We are a currently planning a trip to there this summer. I am excited to see the unique landscapes and magnificent terrain.
What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
Spending time outdoors has to one of the best things to do in Kamloops. The summer weather here is amazing.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Last year I accidentally wore my girlfriend's sweatpants to play baseball. I was in a huge rush and didn't realize until I showed up to the game. They were really tight but my butt looked amazing. LOL. Everybody got a good laugh.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
While spending time Central America I saw a couple heavily impoverished villages. The locals were still happy and in great spirits. It inspired me to learn to appreciate what I have and always try to have a great attitude. Possessions and things shouldn’t create your happiness.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Playing road hockey with all my friends when we were little.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
Along with my ongoing donations to various charities in Kamloops. I do sponsor a ball team and a couple local Motorcross Athletes.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Politics in general... but where would you start? LOL.
Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
I like going for walks with my dog in Kenna Cartwright Park.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
I would like to see the City focus on creating or attracting more skilled labour and high tech jobs.
What do you think makes Kamloops great?
Too many to list! I am a proud Kamloopsian through and through. My opinions are heavily biased on the subject.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1: Travel the East Coast of Canada.
2: Race a car at some point.
3: Learn to like olives.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I used to teach spin class. Lol.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Facebook normally but I have been using Instagram a lot lately. I am on LinkedIn a well.
What is the name of your business/organization?

Why did you get into/start this business?
I got into mortgage broking to provide expertise and knowledge to my clients. When I went to purchase my first home in my early twenties, I was pretty let down on the information and knowledge the banker had provided me with.
What is the goal of your business?
To provide expertise and knowledge while helping clients with the biggest purchase of their life.
What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
The job is pretty stressful at times. A lot of pressure and deadlines.
What do you always find yourself saying?
"It is what it is."

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson. He would get you motivated in a hurry and he seems pretty cool.
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Shopping locally is everything. Keeps jobs and money in the community.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
In 2013, I was featured in a National Mortgage Broker magazine as being one of the Top 35 under 35. It was a proud moment for me and very humbling. It was great to get recognized for all my hard work over the years.
