In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses, and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KamloopsBCNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What is your name?
Delrae Kohnert.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
I've lived in Kamloops for seven years total.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My husband Josh, because we always enjoy the great outdoors together and have the most fun, he pushes me to do things that I probably wouldn’t if it wasn’t for him. And now we have a little boy to enjoy those things with us!

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Disneyland, because let’s be honest I am just a big kid at heart.

What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Flaman Fitness, every time I go in there I have a tough time walking out empty handed!

What is your favourite activity?
Working out would be the obvious one, but I also enjoy dirt biking.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Being a fitness competitor takes a lot of hard work and compromise. Last year when I was prepping for my show it took away a lot of time that I would normally spend with my husband because I was working, spending two to three hours in the gym and food prepping every night. It felt like I could hardly spend time with him and when I could we couldn’t eat together or enjoy dirt biking together because I was worried I would get hurt to close to my show. I know it was hard for my husband and at moments I think he felt annoyed by the whole thing. He still stood by me but I knew he wasn’t happy about the process. The morning of my show I left the hotel to get hair, tan and makeup done and head to the theatre. The moment I stepped on stage to showcase all my hard work I could hear him, and all my friends cheering me on! I had so many friends and my parents come to see me for just a few moments on stage. I also received so many messages from friends that could not be there and that was so amazing! My husband even had tears in his eyes because he was so proud of me! My best friend Jackie has also been with me through it all and going through prep with her made it a little easier. Thank you to everyone that believes in me, you all inspire me every day!

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I grew up on a ranch with lots of horses. My dad travelled the rodeo circuit but my fondest memory was our trip to Texas and Oklahoma. We drove all day and night to get there and it was a trip that I will cherish forever.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I volunteered with Junior Achievements for many years. I think it is very important to teach youth about business and what to expect after school.

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
The violence because it seems like it is everywhere now.

What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
Dirt Biking!

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
You would find me out at the gravel pits in Barnhartvale walking my dogs.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
Our location! This city is surrounded by lakes, and mountains meaning you can literally go fishing, hiking or dirt biking within minutes from the city in all directions!

What is the name of your business/organization?
Ladies Only Fitness.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I love fitness and I love helping women achieve their goals, this seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to have my dream job and be able to raise our kid too!

What is the goal of your business?
My goal is to show women that starting your fitness journey doesn’t have to be hard! All it takes is a little motivation and having a goal in mind. I want women to come to Ladies Only and feel comfortable and confident being there!

What is your preferred method of social media? (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
Instagram and Facebook.

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Not giving myself enough credit for my accomplishments.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Honestly, I don’t think I would change anything! I am who I am because of my experiences and the journey life has taken me on.

What do you always find yourself saying?
'Everything happens for a reason so if it is meant to be, it will happen!'

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Oh man, there is a few boss ladies but I wouldn't mind a day with DanaLinn Bailey or Dani Reardon for a day!

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
We have heard this many times but shopping locally helps support local people. You are not supporting some big CEO get an extra bonus. You are supporting a family, or a person that is just trying to work in there dream industry and make a living doing it!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Last year I would have said Qualifying for Nationals in the figure division, however this year I brought a little boy into the world and that was the hardest thing I have ever done so that is my proudest moment now!

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Again, I feel like my husband deserves the shout out because he totally supports me, and comes to my rescue anytime I need him! He fixes so much stuff and is, I feel, he is a dying breed of a true handyman because he can fix almost anything!!

My choice for the KamloopsBCNow In Focus spotlight is:
Cindy Hines, Owner of TanikaSpa.

Some general comments/thoughts I would like to share are:
This past year I have added a bunch of new equipment that the girls wanted. I love feedback from women on how to make their gym even better! I think that’s the best part of being a member of a locally owned gym, it's my happy place too!
