In Focus | Jennilee Fraser

Meet Jennilee! She has lived in Kamloops since she was 5 years old and provides health and wellness to people in the Loops, both physically and emotionally!

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My partner Nigel, he’s the kindest, sweetest, funniest person I know.

What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
It’s a toss-up between Golden Buddha and Arwen’s Apparel.

Describe yourself in one word.
Exuberant

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Scotland! I’ve recently been looking into some of my family history, and it would be amazing seeing some of the places where my ancestors came from.

What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
Taking dance and fitness classes at Let’s Move Studio!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I was doing a dance routine for my high school talent show, I tripped and fell during the performance. It was a turning point for me because that was the moment I realized how much I wanted to be on stage and perform!

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Definitely becoming a mother! Once my daughter was born, I wanted to be the best person I could be. I wanted to show her the best version of myself, so I started a “Say Yes to Jen” project and started taking opportunities that either scarred me or excited me. Which is what brought me to Let’s Move Studio. There, I found a home away from home where I was encouraged and inspired to become a yoga/fitness instructor. This also gave me the courage to apply my pieces into Paint Nite where I was hired on as a Master Artist!

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Going camping up at Paul Lake in the summer! I have always loved nature and exploring in the woods!

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I volunteer for Let’s Move Studio, offering Yoga classes during events, sitting at booths or performing choreography for festivals, etc. I’ve also volunteered art lessons and Zumba classes for some of the schools in town.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
That if we took care of the Earth more, including each other. We could do so much for ourselves if we were open to change.

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
Peterson Creek up at the waterfall. I love taking my dogs up there

Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
I would like to see something change regarding affordable housing.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
Our arts community has grown so much over the years!! It’s so good to see so many amazing and talented people getting recognized for their gifts

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. I want to travel across Canada on horseback
2. Have my own Art/Performing Art exhibition
3. Skydiving!

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I get anxious before going out in front of people. The theatre is a little different because I'm someone else, but when I have to speak publicly I get really nervous even though I do it almost daily!

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Mostly through Facebook.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Let’s Move Studio

Why did you get into/start this business?
To remain in the service of humanity in the best way, I know how

What is the goal of your business?
To provide health and wellness to everyone, both physically and emotionally

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Accepting myself for all my weirdness, and letting go of people who don’t.

What do you always find yourself saying?
"Things are always working out for me."

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Life has an ebb and flow; if things are bad, the best is coming. If things are good, feel the gratitude 😊

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
A whole day?! Definitely my partner Nigel, he’s the best person I know.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
It’s important to support the people in our community!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My biggest commissioned art piece; a 7ft x 7ft oil on canvas mural! It turned out better than I could have imagined and I was paid well for it! Best feeling ever!

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Ace Porter. She’s a midwife for Mighty Oakes Midwives. She’s amazing and literally saved my life!

My choice for the KamloopsBCNow In Focus spotlight is:
Brittany Gill
