Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?

I was born in Calgary, lived there for a while until my family moved to Japan for a couple years, and then 12 years ago or so we moved to Kamloops.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Obviously my wife haha. We have a lot of fun together and enjoy hanging out and watching tv together or eating junk food or going on dates to delicious restaurants around the city.

What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Probably Lucky's. I might offend a few people by saying this but because they have the best burgers in town.

Describe yourself in one word.
Energetic.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Probably Atlanta and I'd stay for the Superbowl.

What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?

If it's not hanging out with my wife probably playing pickup basketball.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Haha, that's a tricky question. I play for the Kamloops Broncos and our last head coach had this speech that he would always give about a mountain and there are people at the top, middle, and bottom of the mountain. And the people at the top of mountain party and then all the waste from their partying goes into the stream down to the people in the middle of the mountain who have to drink from the stream, and then the waste from the people at the middle goes into the stream to the bottom people. And we want to be at the top of the mountain. That speech was pretty inspiring.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Well, my favourite memory was terrifying at the time but my dad was a teacher at the school where I was in kindergarten at and he brought my sister and I to make some copies in the middle of the summer and my sister and I got a little bit lost and I freaked out. But now it's my favourite childhood memory because I love to retell the story and exaggerate every detail possible as if my dad abandoned us and now it's a long-standing joke in our family.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I play the drums for the church that I go to and help the Broncos out when we are volunteering for things.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Eliminate world hunger.

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?

There is a little hike above pacific way that is really neat.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
Besides the obvious things, it'd be cool to see high school football grow. Most of the high schools in town have trouble fielding a team, but that’s not for a lack of great coaches.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
The volunteer spirit for sure. Every time there's a need from within or without the city, Kamloops seems to always rise to the occasion.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Go to a Seahawks game, go to a Metallica concert, graduate university. The last one shouldn't be too hard.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
When I have to change my cat’s litter I take it out to the garbage in my boxers, haven't been spotted by my neighbours yet.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?

What is the name of your business/organization?
I work for a construction company called Hillside contracting.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I needed a job that I could do while in school.

What is the goal of your business?
Haha build houses.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
I guess the struggle that everyone has of learning new things and working hard.

What do you always find yourself saying?

"What d'ya figure?"

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
I have two pieces actually, 1) Don't sweat the small stuff. 2) It's all small stuff.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Well, obviously my wife, but since I get to do that all the time I'd probably say Ray Lewis so I could soak up everything he knows about playing football.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Well, we're all in this together so it's important to support our fellow Kamloopsians who are following their dreams by opening their own businesses.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Probably starting and being a captain for the Broncos last season. As a team, it wasn't a great season but personally, I had my best year of football.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!

I'd say, my boss, Barry Thiessen because he has a remarkable ability to take what life throws at him and still show up to work with a smile.

My choice for the KamloopsBCNow In Focus spotlight is:
