Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
I was born and raised in Kamloops until I was about twelve years old. I moved to Kelowna for five years and lived in Vancouver for a year. Otherwise, I’ve been back in Kamloops, where I intend to plant my roots and grow.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
I enjoy spending time with a variety of people in a one-on-one setting, so I can learn about their lives and hear about their experiences!

What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
My favourite store is certainly Oak & Aether. They are locally owned, ethically responsible and have some of the most amazing skulls and crystals you could imagine!

Describe yourself in one word.
Infinitesimal?

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I’m currently interested in going to India to further my knowledge of consciousness.

What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
I love to experience Kamloops’ nature, forests, rivers, mountains, etc.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I try not to judge myself too harshly, so anything that a typical person may feel is embarrassing is generally pretty cool with me. I love to laugh at myself!

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I recently read Micheal Singer’s book The Untethered Soul, and the impact that it had on me was beyond inspiring. It was a profound realization that has changed my life for the better! Listening to Ram Dass on YouTube is also very inspiring and enlightening. Besides that, I find inspiration in common things; sunsets, birds (especially if they’re arguing over a piece of food), petrichor, Costco, aeroplane rides, paint mixing, loving others unconditionally, when animals have their tongues out just a little bit, etc.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
My mom did a great job of making holidays really special for us. She would always have a little display of themed balloons, small gifts and candy for almost every occasion. Waking up on those mornings was definitely something that made me feel very loved. And now it’s something I try to do for our kids; hopefully, they love it too!

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
This is something I’d like to work more on. Right now I try to do my best to brighten people’s lives in my work. Not only to make them feel beautiful and proud to be wearing artwork, but also a counsellor to confide in and feel like they can share with if they need! Once our life settles a bit, I’d like to do some work with the homeless community.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
If I could grant humankind the ability to listen fully, without the commentary of the mind, to allow space to process, and then form a response, the world would be more loving. We need to realize we are all one, all on the same team. We are only different because we tell ourselves we are different. Perhaps it’s like, we are all different flavours of ice cream. In the bigger picture, we’re all delicious, perfect ice cream! Why can’t you just be?

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
Gamble Pond every day!

Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
I think some more housing for the homeless with some basic care and kitchens would be lovely. Although I’m not super educated on what we have going on right now!

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
Kamloops is a beautiful city. It’s got everything you could ask for, without being overcrowded or having crazy traffic.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Love more fully, be more honest, help more people!

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I have a Corgi named Eevee!

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Instagram is probably the best way to connect with me! @rachelleink.xo.

What is the name of your business/organization?
My business is Wildwood Tattoo Parlour, run by myself and my partner, Kristopher Swain.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I’ve had a passion for creation since I was a wee lass. I also have had a fiery passion for creating a loving environment where I can give myself in a way that makes sense to me. So opening our own studio was a great way to convey the energy we liked!

What is the goal of your business?
My goal is to help people, give them lovely artwork, make them feel less insecure and less anxious about getting such an incredible procedure done!

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
I have always struggled with anxiety and depression and letting go of myself/things that bother me.

What do you always find yourself saying?
“... But that’s okay!” “Omg so beautiful, so amazing, I love it.”

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
The past doesn’t exist, except for in your memories. Focus on the now!

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Sadhguru would be so amazing to spend the day with.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Because it feeds our neighbours and their families? And in turn, they feed you and yours!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Choosing love over fear, even though it’s an ongoing commitment!

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Jill and Chris Potter who own Oak & Aether need a shoutout! They are amazing!

My choice for the KamloopsBCNow In Focus spotlight is:
Jill Potter.
