Meet Robb Lewis! Robb is originally from the Lone Star State but has lived in Kamloops for 13 years. He is a creative man who loves to golf and help small businesses grow!
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
I grew up in Galveston, Texas, but I have lived in Kamloops for 13 years now.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
I’d have to say my wife or else she would kill me LOL but in all honesty, she’s my best friend and a huge reason why my company is successful.
What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Wow, this one’s a hard question to answer as there are so many great local businesses that I love to support but if I had to narrow it down to one, I would say Frick & Frack because of their food and drink specials, also because the owner Adrian is great.
Describe yourself in one word.
Creative.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Right now because of the snow and cold weather, a tropical paradise, not too picky as long as it’s got white sandy beaches, palm trees, hot weather and cold drinks.
What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
Golfing especially now that we have a customized golf cart.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Honestly, I’m a pretty outgoing laid-back person and it would take a lot to embarrass me, so I don’t really get embarrassed.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Meeting other young entrepreneurs, I have been blessed to be successful in owning my business and I would say a huge part of my success is listening to their advice as it has helped me grow as a person and as a business owner.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
This one is pretty hard to answer and narrow down to one as I had a great childhood with lots of memorable moments.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
My business has given me the opportunity to be able to give back to our community by hosting numerous different events at our location. In the last two years, we’ve hosted events for the YMCA raising over $500, SPCA raising over $700 and the Kamloops hospice association raising over $6000. We do an event at our location every year called “Signature Royale” which is a casino night with all the proceeds going Kamloops hospice, we are actually planning our fourth annual casino night right now and the tentative date is February 21, 2020.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
The amount people spend on their phones and social media. “Unplug to connect,“ Ironic, isn’t it? A device that was made to ease communications can end up being a hindrance to talking with others in real life. I see so many people at events, dinners, etc. letting the world know what they’re doing instead of enjoying the moment itself.
Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
My house, I’m a homebody for sure!
Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
I would like to see more spotlight put on small local businesses, Kamloops has so many amazing small businesses. I feel like there should be more opportunities for people to enjoy them. Maybe more events where small business owners are highlighted.
What do you think makes Kamloops great?
The community, there is so many awesome people supporting each other here.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1) Go to a Super Bowl (preferably if the Seattle Seahawks or the New Orleans Saints are in it).
2) Own a convertible Ferrari spider.
3) Have vacation homes in Miami, Hawaii and Mexico.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I love animals, especially dogs!!
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Most people connect with us through Facebook and Instagram, Social media has been a huge part of our business.
What is the name of your business/organization?
Signature Signs & Printing.
Why did you get into/start this business?
I love marketing and I also love helping small businesses grow. Signs & Printing gives us the opportunity to do that.
What is the goal of your business?
To help small businesses grow, we offer free marketing advice on most of the projects that we are part of.
What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
The biggest struggle was dealing with the construction for the Victoria Street project recently, being a young company and having very limited access to your company was extremely hard for us but with the amazing support from our clients we survived it.
What do you always find yourself saying?
"Living the dream."
Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Try not to take life so serious, remember the bad days make the good days better.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Sean Combs, I would like to learn how he created his empire, also seems like a pretty fun guy to be around.
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
It’s very important to support local companies because the money stays within our community, I always try to support local as much as I can!
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
100% starting my own company, Signature has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me.
Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
