I like to hang out with a variety of different people including my kids and grandkids. My all-time favorite thing to do is just chill with my wife enjoying a glass of wine.

What is your favorite local store in Kamloops and why?
Runner Sole and Spoke, Bike & Ski because they are my ambassador sponsors for all my training gear.

Describe yourself in one word.
Passionate.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Italy because it’s my second home.

What is your favorite activity in Kamloops?
Mountain biking.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I’m the brunt of many jokes because I often speak before I think.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Early on in my real estate career, I met a young gentleman who worked in a big market. He helped me duplicate his big-market business strategy to smaller market like Kamloops. It showed me that it doesn’t matter where you are, it’s about what you’re willing to sacrifice in order to get where you want to go.

Tell us your favorite childhood memory.
Fishing with my dad in Guichon Creek (Mamit Lake).

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
Throughout the years, I have coached hockey, soccer, lacrosse and being involved in a host of other sports. Also, consistently contributed to sport and art causes in the city.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Empower people to lead by example.

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
My backyard.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
I would like to see Downtown Kamloops continue to transform itself by offering more housing, shopping, dining and networking by developing the current infrastructure, it doesn’t stress city resources.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
I love that Kamloops has a distinct four seasons with different offerings to indulge in throughout the year.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Live in Italy for a year.
Qualify for ‘Ironman World Championships.’
Hike the West Coast Trail.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I’m quite sensitive!

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Facebook, Instagram & Linkedin.

What is the name of your business/organization?
River City Realty Ltd.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I think it was just the natural progression in my professional path. I wanted to be able to have complete control over my own destiny.

What is the goal of your business?
To provide a stress-free and seamless real estate experience for buyers & sellers and to empower our staff to be the best they can be.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
I underestimated how hard starting a business from scratch would be and how difficult it is to manage the expectations of both my clients and my employees (possibly because of my sensitive nature). I think one of the hardest things is to believe and trust in your own intuition.

What do you always find yourself saying?
“You can’t point the finger on anybody because there’s three pointing back." You must take responsibility for your actions.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Every day is hard work, nothing is easy as we all have the same challenges. However, if we have a good attitude, work hard and are coachable, good things will happen.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
It would be Jimmy Pattison.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
It sustains the economy. Don’t even get me started on this one.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
There are so many but recently getting acknowledged for my 25 years of service with the Canadian Real Estate Association.

Give someone you think that deserves a shout out and explain why!
This is an easy one, my wife! Because she sacrifices so much of her for the benefit of others.

My choice for the KamloopsBCNow In Focus spotlight is:
Trevor Koot of the Executive Officer of Kamloops & District Real Estate Association.
