Famous Canadian painter Ted Harrison has died at the age of 88 at his home in Victoria.

Harrison was born in Wingate, County Durham, England and lived in the Yukon from 1967 until 1993. His artwork focused on the colours and culture of the Yukon. In the 1970s Harrison moved to academic works and was featured as an illustrator and author. Harrison has written several children’s books and illustrated both “The Cremation of Sam McGee” and “The Shooting of Dan McGrew” by Robert Service. Information about his passing was posted in a message on his official website.

In 1993 he moved to Victoria to continue his painting and writing and was inducted into the Royal Conservatory of the Arts in 2005. His paintings can be found in private and public collections throughout Canada, and in New Zealand, Japan, Germany and the United States.
Information regarding a memorial service have yet to be released, but a public service is expected.
