The top American baby names for 2014 have been released, and while the leading boy’s name has remained the same from 2013, there’s a new girl’s name topping the list.
The top boy's name for the year is Noah and the top girl's name is Emma. Other popular boy’s names for 2014 include Liam, Mason, Jacob and William. On the girl’s side, it was Olivia, Sophia, Isabella, and Ava. The name Emma was in second spot in 2013, but moved up to the top spot for last year.
There are several boys’ names that are gaining popularity from 2013, including Bode, Axl, Gannon, and Bodie. On the girl’s end, the names Aranza, Montserrat, Monserrat, and Maisie have increased in popularity.
All names are from Social Security card applications for births that occurred in the United States after 1879. Different spellings of similar names are not combined. For example, the names Caitlin, Caitlyn, Kaitlin, Kaitlyn, Kaitlynn, Katelyn, and Katelynn are considered separate names and each has its own rank.
