An American artist is literally drawing attention to the pressures associated with body image and sparking conversation with a time-lapse video.
Jody Steel creates body artwork and is a viral sensation because of her powerful and meaningful messages. Using the human body as her canvas, Steel creates mesmerizing images, but her latest work is gaining a lot of attention. Her latest time-lapse video called Body Image highlights the desire to become so skinny it’s harmful and unattainable.
“There have been times I've look in a mirror and wished for a perfect figure. No matter how much I went to the gym or how little I ate carbs and sugar, I still didn't see what I imagined was perfect,” said Steel of her project. “Once I realized that naturally, I don't have a coke bottle figure, or long and thin legs, I began to let go of the pressures I've felt to fulfill an image that our society has deemed the pinnacle of beauty.”
