September has officially arrived and the first day of school is right around the corner. But, don't say goodbye to summer just yet because the heat is sticking around for a little longer. It's going to be a beautiful weekend in Kamloops and there's lots of ways to enjoy summer's long weekend finale. We've rounded up a few:
The Armstrong IPE returns this weekend with a midway packed with rides, carnival games, the Canadian Professional Rodeo Tour finals, exhibits, live shows, vendors and hundreds of animals to see. The down-home charm of this country fair makes it one of the Interior’s must-visit events. There’s truly something for everyone to enjoy at the Armstrong fair, not to mention great food and entertainment. The 118th IPE is celebrating 150 years of Canadian agriculture this year with the theme “Field to Plate.” The gates opened Wednesday and the fair runs to Sunday, September 3rd. Tickets are available online or at the gate.
Go cheer on the Kamloops Blazers as they host the Victoria Royals in their first WHL preseason game Friday night at the McArthur Island Sports Centre. Game time is 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and youth.
The last weekend of summer promises to be a hot one, with temperatures in the mid 30s. Why not take the kids to the park and soak up the last bit of summer sunshine? The city is keeping all spray parks and the wading pool at Prince Charles Park open until the second weekend of September this year. All the city’s nature parks are also open again after many closures in the past couple months.
Labour Day usually marks the closing of summer lift operations at Sun Peaks, so the mountain is having a Lift and Lager wrap up party on Monday, September 4th. Granville Island Brewing will be at Masa’s with a complimentary cold one for ticket and pass holders and a DJ will be spinning on the patio. However it’s not your last chance to enjoy lift-accessed summer hiking and biking as Sun Peaks is keeping the chairlift spinning for an extra weekend this summer, wrapping things up September 10th. The Peaks Pedal Fest and an outdoor showing of the film Life Cycles are also set for this weekend.
Music in in the Park wrapped up this week, but there’s still a few places to catch live tunes. Spaceport Union will be bringing their funky jams to Pogue Mahone on Saturday, September 2nd at 9 p.m. Cover is $5. Nova Scotia’s retro Allensong will also be at the Art We Are on Saturday night at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
