1. New Zealanders are signing up for a nationwide secret Santa
New Zealand has a nationwide secret Santa and it’s so big that even the new prime minister is getting involved. Jacinda Ardern tweeted that she loves Christmas too much to miss out on the secret Santa. People from all over the country apparently share her views because nearly 4,000 people have signed up.
So you may have noticed I don't tweet especially often (I just lurk) but as a ridiculous lover of Christmas, I couldn't miss the chance to join the @nzsecretsanta movement. Registration ends tomorrow so feel free to join in my over the top Christmas cheer

2. Toy Story director takes leave of absence after sexual misconduct allegations
The creative force behind Walt Disney Animation and Pixar is taking a six-month leave of absence from the company following allegations of sexual misconduct against him. John Lasseter, who directed Toy Story, sent a memo to staff saying “I deeply apologize if I have let you down.”

3. MLB hands down major punishment to the Atlanta Braves
It’ll take a bit of time for the Atlanta Braves to recover from the sanctions handed down to them from the MLB on Monday. As punishment for circumventing rules governing the signing of amateur international players, the Braves will be forced to give up more than a dozen prospects. They’ll also lose a draft pick and their former GM John Coppolella was banned from the MLB for life.

4. ‘Butcher of Bosnia’ sentenced to life in prison
The International Criminal Tribunal sentenced Ratko Mladić to life in prison on Wednesday for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. Known as the ‘Butcher of Bosnia’, the 74-year-old was convicted of the massacre of more than 7,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys at Srebrenica and the siege of Sarajevo in which more than 10,000 people died.

5. Michael Buble will host the 2018 Junos
After some time off to care for his sick son, Michael Bublé is returning to the spotlight next year to host the Juno Awards. The singer was introduced as the host at a press conference in Vancouver on Tuesday where local band Dear Rouge performed as well. The Junos take place in Vancouver on March 25th, 2018.
