St. Maarten is a popular Caribbean tourist destination.
Beautiful weather, sandy beaches and turquoise water makes it a great spot to go for a few days in the sun.
Not only that, but it has one of the coolest airport setups in the world, with one end of the Princess Juliana International Airport runway being extremely close to Maho Beach.
Because of the proximity to the beach, planes are nearly on the ground by the time they pass over the beach, which is usually lined with tourists.
A trip to St. Maarten isn’t complete without a selfie with a plane on Maho Beach.
It was a scarier experience, however, for tourists who were watching the planes come in over the weekend though.
On Sunday, a WestJet flight from Toronto took its first attempt too low, getting a little close to the water for comfort before quickly pulling up.
Off line from the windy conditions, the plane didn't attempt a landing and instead made a loop, returning 45 minutes later for a second and more successful attempt at landing.
The video, posted by ATCPilot, shows both landing attempts and then compares the two side by side so you can see just how low the first attempt was.
Although it looked close, WestJet released a statement saying the pilot was in control the entire time and that "go-around" landings are common, especially in poor weather conditions like that.
Here are a few other close landings at Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten for your viewing enjoyment.
