Rick Mercer shares a Gord Downie story that perfectly sums up the Canadian icon

There’s been a non-stop flow of stories and tributes since Gord Downie passed away on October 17th.

The Tragically Hip frontman had such a significant impact on so many people’s life, both through his music and his actions.

Despite his fame, Downie was as humble as they came and was always looking for ways that he could positively influence those around him.

He also showed a genuine interest and care for everyone and everything that makes Canada the wonderful country that it is.

A fantastic example of that is his interaction with Rick Mercer’s dad, a story that Mercer shared in his latest Rick’s Rant on The Mercer Report.

The story is from 17-years-ago and it perfectly sums up why ‘Gord from Kingston’ was such a national treasure.
