Move over Chad Brownlee, the Okanagan has a freshly minted country music star on its hands.
Lake Country musician Jordan Wiberg, better known by his pseudonym Clark W., recently released a brand new song dedicated to the Great White North and the track is garnering some serious traction online.
Aptly titled “Up here, in Canada” the song, which riffs on a multitude of popular Canadian stereotypes, has collected nearly 1.5-million YouTube views in just over two weeks.
“I tried to include a broad spectrum of history, icons, sports and culture, all while injecting some of that classic self-deprecating Canadian humour,” explained Wiberg.
Among the dozens of topics covered are toques, poutine and pet polar bears, but perhaps the most standout line involves a hilarious jab at Nickleback.
“No disrespect to Chad though, I’m a sucker for that song ‘Photograph’,” laughed Wiberg.
After moving to Lake Country six years ago with his wife and kids, Widberg started Okanagan Mixing Studio where he produces his own work as a voice actor as well as other local artists.
He recorded the song, in which he plays all the instruments, after business slowed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I had all of 12 subscribers to my YouTube channel and suddenly there’s over 2,000,” said Wiberg.
“Hal and Joanne from Body Break, Jacob and Olly from On the Bench and a bunch of politicians have all commented and shared the video.”
Wiberg says he’s now working on putting together a band in preparation of debuting the song live at an upcoming local show.
