Kyle Burgess just wanted to go for a run in the mountains of Utah when he got much more than he bargained for.
While in the middle of his workout, Burgess came along a pair of cougar cubs. He began to film the animals when he was in for a terrifying surprise.
Burgess was being stalked by the cubs' mother, a full-grown mountain lion. Noticeably shocked and terrified, Burgess began pleading with the animal, encouraging it to rejoin its babies rather than chasing him down.
Throughout the video, he remains big and makes loud noises in an effort to deter the predator.
"Go away, I'm big and scary," said Burgess in the video. "You're good little kitty cat. What's up dude? Holy sh*t, nice and slow, come on."
"Go away, go get your babies, I'm not coming back down, I promise."
The video, which is more than five minutes long, sees the cougar walk the man away from its cubs. At some points, the animal almost pounces on the runner.
Luckily for Burgess, he was able to pick up a rock and throw it at the cougar, causing it to run away in the process.
Residents are reminded to always hike in groups and, if alone, take proper safety precautions when venturing into the wilderness.
