A lot of people don’t realize this, but Will Arnett is Canadian.
The actor, most famous for his role in Arrested Development and playing the titular role in the Netflix series BoJack Horseman, was born and raised in Toronto.
If you somehow don’t believe that, his knowledge of Canadian slang should be proof enough.
Arnett gave a solid lesson on words you’d hear in Canada and what they mean as a part of a Vanity Fair segment.
From hoser to toque to kerfuffle, Arnett covers a lot of the words that many of us use every day, but sound like gibberish to many Americans.
“Clicks is just short for kilometres,” he explains, following up with an example. “‘How far is it from Winnipeg to Portage la Prairie?’ ‘Oh she’s about 150 clicks bud!’”
He also clarifies what two-four and mickey mean, so your American’s will know exactly how much you drank when they you’re telling them about the wild night you had last weekend.
It’s also funny how you can hear Arnett’s Canadian accent start to come out a bit as he talks about some of Canada’s favourite sayings and terms.
