General Mills Canada has confirmed that the recent recall of Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios does not affect products sold in Canada.
General Mills in the United States announced a voluntary recall on Tuesday for the cereals, stating that there was an error with the product. The cereals sold in the United States, produced at a California factory, say they are gluten free but in fact contain wheat. The affected products have a certain expiry date and these products have not been shipped to Canada according to the company.
“General Mills Canada does not source any Cheerios products from the company's plant in Lodi, California,” said the company in a statement. “Canadian Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios cereals are produced at a different facility and are not included in the recall.”
Canadian cereal boxes can be easily identified as they have bilingual English-French packaging. Canadian consumers who may have purchased Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios from the United States should check the "BETTER IF USED BY" code dates on the box.
