IKEA Recalls 430,000 Ceiling Lamps in Canada

IKEA has issued a recall for two popular ceiling lamps as they may detach and fall from the fixture, posing a hazard to consumers.

The IKEA HYBY and LOCK ceiling lamps are round, white lamps with glass shades. The HYBY ceiling lamp is 37 cm in diameter and has article number 102.042.66. The LOCK ceiling lamp is 25 cm in diameter and has article number 200.557.51. Health Canada says it has not received any reports from consumers regarding injuries or incidents in relation to these products.

IKEA Canada and IKEA US each have received two reports of the HYBY and one LOCK ceiling lamp falling or shattering, with no reported injuries.

According to the company, approximately 22,261 HYBY and 405,317 LOCK ceiling lamps have been sold across Canada and online. An additional 840,000 lamps were sold in the United States. The affected products were sold from October 2012 to January 2016.

Consumers should contact IKEA Canada at 1-800-661-9807 for further information about this recall. LOCK and HYBY ceiling lamps can be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required for a full refund.
