A man from Nelson, B.C. is expected to plead guilty to a mischief charge in stemming from a shark tank incident last October.
David Weaver was accused of premeditating a dive into a tank containing sand tiger sharks, sawfish and moray eels at Ripley’s Aquarium located beside the CN Tower in downtown Toronto.
According to police, a large crowd was sipping cocktails and mingling during a “jazz night” at the Aquarium when Weaver allegedly took off his clothes, hopped a security barrier and jumped into the “dangerous lagoon” containing live sharks.
Several members of the crowd took photos and videos of the incident that quickly attracted international attention via social media.
During a brief hearing Wednesday, Aug. 7, a Toronto court heard that Weaver would appear again on Sept. 19 to enter a guilty plea in the aquarium incident.
Weaver’s lawyers said their client returned to BC in the spring after his bail conditions were reduced and resumed his work as a fishing guide.
