Gas-powered generators recalled after dozens of users report finger amputations

A popular gas-powered generator has been recalled after reports that dozens of people’s fingers were cut off while using it.

The Generac and DR brand 6,500-watt and 8,000-watt portable generators include a folding handle on their sides that can pinch a user’s fingers, Health Canada said.

As of Nov. 8, there have been 24 reports of users’ fingers being amputated and five reports of crush injuries.

In total, there have been 37 injury reports about the products, all in the US.

No reports have so far been made in Canada.

Customers are urged to immediately stop using the generators and contact Generac for an update.

Health Canada said 4,574 of the products were sold in the country between June 2013 to June 2021.

In the US, 321,160 were sold.

For more information, consumers can head to the Generac website.
