Handful of lawnmower models recalled due to ‘laceration hazard’

Thousands of lawnmowers sold in Canada this year are being recalled due to an issue that affects the mowers' ability to turn off.

“If water gets into the mower’s handle support while the battery is installed, the mower can fail to shut off when the bail handle is released or start without a key, posing a laceration hazard to the user,” reads a recall notice.

The four models of Dewalt lawnmowers were sold from February 2024 to July 2024 and include the Dewalt 2X 20V Max 21” Self-Propelled, Dewalt 60V Max 21” Self-Propelled, Dewalt 2X 20V Max 21” Push and the Dewalt 60V Max 21” Push models.

According to the Dewalt website: “the model number is printed on the black model plate located on the rear door of the mower. Only mowers with date codes 2023 32 through 2024 13 are affected. The date code is laser printed in yellow on the left-hand side of the mower above the rear wheel.

As of Aug. 8, 2024, Dewalt had not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada, but there were 11 incidents in the United States, one of which involved a minor laceration injury.

The recall notice was issued on Aug. 15 and anyone with one of the four mowers should immediately stop using it and take it to an authorized service centre.

More information about the recall notice can be found online at this link and on the Dewalt website.
