Here are the top baby names of 2019 in BC and Canada

The most popular baby names of the year have been released and Canadian parents have selected a mix of some old favourites as well as some modern alternatives.

In BC, the name Olivia topped the charts for newborns based on statistics kept from Jan. 1 to Dec. 18, 2019, released by the Ministry of Health.

Next up in provincial popularity were Oliver, Lucas, Liam, Ethan, Noah, William, Benjamin, Charlotte, Emma and Leo.

The name Liam dropped three spots after being the most popular name in BC for 2018.

Between Jan. 1 and Dec. 18, a total of 40,978 babies were born in the province.

According to Baby Centre, Jackson took the top spot as the most popular boy's name across Canada, while Sophia was the most common girl's name.
