IKEA offering refunds for USB charger after reports of burns, electric shocks

The public has been told to immediately stop using an IKEA charger after reports of people being burned and shocked by the product.

IKEA said the item, “ÅSKSTORM 40W USB charger dark grey,” can be returned to any of the corporation’s stores.

A full refund will be provided and no receipt or proof of purchase is necessary.

“The power cable may get damaged or broken after being wrapped around a charger or bent back and forth after a longer period of use,” the Swedish multinational explained.

“The damaged cable may lead to thermal burns and electric shock.”

Health Canada said it has received no reports of injuries in Canada.

Globally, however, IKEA said there have been 17 incidents, with some involving thermal burns or electric shocks.

IKEA told Health Canada the product was on sale between April 2020 and December 2023.

More than 10,000 units were sold during that time.

The product was made in China.
