As the saying goes, good things come to those who wait – and in the case of Thanh Lu of Edmonton, he took his time checking what eventually turned out to be a $30 million lotto ticket.
After hearing that someone in Edmonton had won the $30 million prize, Lu took his ticket and only checked the last two digits before putting it away and checking two more numbers the next day.
“I did the same thing each day and after the fourth day, I had matched all the numbers and knew I had won,” he said.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was screaming and woke up the household.”
Lu won the Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Draw from Feb. 5 and he did not mince his words when asked what his plans were with his newfound riches.
“I want to get out of here,” he laughed.
“I am thinking of moving to BC for nicer weather and property on the waterfront.”
Lu added that he planned to give some money to his church and that the big win was a relief.
“Even $250,000 would have been good,” he said. “This is a big relief.”
