Justin Trudeau's approval rating falls under 50% for the first time since being elected

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s approval rating has dipped below 50%.

It’s the first time this has happened since he was elected in 2015.

The latest data from Angus-Reid shows that only 46% of Canadians currently approve of Trudeau, with 49% saying they disapprove of the prime minister.

That approval rating has fallen more than 10% — most notably among residents of Quebec and Atlantic Canada — since he became the leader of Canada in 2015.

While Trudeau’s numbers have slipped, he still has a sizeable advantage over his two main opponents in federal politics.

New NDP leader Jasmeet Singh makes his debut with a 39% approval and 33% disapproval rating, while Conservative leader Andrew Scheer has a 35% approval and 36% disapproval rating.

However, the numbers show that a lot of people are on the fence about these two new party leaders.

The ratings show that 28% of Canadians are unsure about Singh and 29% are unsure about Scheer, compared to just 4% that haven’t made up their mind about Trudeau.
