MAGA hat remade into an anti-hate toque by Canadian company

A Canadian company is aiming to “unravel hate” with a reimagining of what has become a recognizable symbol in American culture.

The Make America Great Again hat has a new, more peaceful Canadian version.

Welcome to Canada is the new sentiment that the Toronto based company Peace Collective hopes that people will get behind.

I an emotional video, several people from different backgrounds are asked to describe what the Make America Great Again hat means to them.

“The MAGA hat is definitely the dividing line of us versus them,” says one subject.

“It represents anger and fear and hatred.”

“We unravelled the MAGA hat stitch by stitch and gave it a new meaning,” said Peace Collective in response.

The subjects interviewed change their tone, as the hat they’re show now says Welcome to Canada in the same white thread from the MAGA hat on a red toque.

“We feel welcome in Canada. And we love the country too. Even the winters,” laughs one man.

With each purchase of the new hat, profits will be donated to WoodGreen Community Services, a charity that helps immigrants and refugees with the settlement process in Canada.

“As Canadians we take pride in our country, our city, our team, and ourselves. We believe we can make our country great by welcoming everyone to our home,” says the product description on the website. “We wanted to make something that reflected those values. So, we created the ‘Welcome to Canada’ toque as a symbol of love and acceptance. We hope you’ll join with us in our mission to #UnravelHate.”
