Health Canada has issued a warning to consumers after tens of thousands of baby swings and rockers were recalled due to a strangulation hazard.
Two products are affected, the 4moms MamaRoo Baby Swing and the RockaRoo Baby Rocker.
According to Health Canada, about 77,700 MamaRoos and 10,000 RockaRoos were imported into Canada between January 2010 and August 2022.
In the US, about two million MamaRoos and 220,000 RockaRoos were sold over the same period.
4moms said one death has been reported in connection with the products.
“When the swing or rocker is not in use, its restraint straps can dangle below the seat and non-occupant crawling infants can become entangled in the straps, posing a strangulation hazard,” Health Canada explained.
“This issue does not present a hazard to infants placed in the seat of either product.”
Consumers with crawling infants are urged to stop using the products immediately.
They are urged to then contact 4moms to request a strap fastener.
Once the strap fastener is installed, the products can be used again, according to Health Canada.
