Overtime ban to remain following Canada Post, CUPW weekend meeting

The overtime ban for mail carriers across the country will continue to remain in effect following a weekend meeting between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).

According to the union, the two parties met Sunday morning just outside of Ottawa and CUPW provided its response to the corporation’s latest offers.

“At 9:30 am, the union provided our concepts and details to the mediators, and they presented the positions to Canada Post,” wrote CUPW.

“Not meeting face-to-face and the mediators moving between the parties is a method used by experienced mediators to remove the opposing personalities and animosity from the interaction.”

CUPW said that just before 1 pm, they were informed that the employer had left the facility to review the documents and may respond in a few days.

“We would hope the corporation is back to us as soon as possible,” added CUPW.

The union said that although talks continue, the nationwide overtime ban will remain in effect.

CUPW received Canada Post’s latest offers on May 21 and proposed a two-week truce to allow the union to review the offers and negotiate without a labour disruption, but the Crown corporation turned down the offer and the union began legal strike action on May 23.
