Poilievre could become an MP again in August after Carney calls by-election

Tory Leader Pierre Poilievre could be an MP again by August.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said a by-election will be held in Battle River–Crowfoot, in Alberta, on Aug. 18.

Damien Kurek, who was elected for the Tories in that riding with 82 per cent of the vote in April, resigned his seat earlier this month in an effort to get Poilievre back into Parliament.

The Tory leader lost his Ottawa-area riding, Carleton, to Liberal candidate Bruce Fanjoy.

Carney promised “no games” in the calling of a by-election after Poilievre’s defeat.
