Popular scented candles recalled over 'abnormally high' flames

Thousands of scented candles have been recalled after the discovery that their flames “can reach abnormally high levels.”

In a public notice, Health Canada said the Maison Lavande candles “can lead to fire, property damage and personal injury.”

The company told Health Canada it has received one report of a high flame involving the brand, but it caused no damage or injuries.

Health Canada said anyone in possession of the candles should immediately stop using them and get in touch with Maison Lavande for a refund.

Only the following candles sold between May 1 and Nov. 24 this year are affected:

  • Amber, vanilla and lavender

  • Eucalyptus wood and lavender

  • Grapefruit blossom and lavender

  • Cedar and lavender

According to Health Canada, the company said it sold 12,192 of the affected candles in Canada.

They were made in China.
