Proposed 98-storey Toronto tower could become Canada's tallest building

First Canadian Place’s 40 plus year run as Canada’s tallest building could soon come to an end.

A proposal to build a 98-storey highrise at 385 Yonge Street in downtown Toronto has been put forward by Cresford Developments.

The building, designed by New York’s Kohn Pedersen Fox, would feature a mix of retails, office and residential space.

Dubbed as Yonge Street Living (YSL) Residences, the building would slide in between the three-storey brick building known as the Richard S. Williams Block and the stone Gerrard Building.

YSL Residences will bring a number of new apartments to Toronto’s downtown core, including 648 one-bedroom, 241 two-bedroom, 110 three-bedroom and 107 studio units.

There will also be 2,212 square metres of indoor and 909 square metres of outdoor amenity space, located in various spots around the building.

For now, however, the 72-storey First Canadian Place, which became Canada’s tallest building the the sixth tallest in the world when it was built in 1975, remains the tallest building in Canada.

It’ll stay that way until 2023, when The One is completed, which will be an 83-storey building also in Toronto.

The next step for YSL Residences is a prehearing in August 2018.
