Rick Mercer takes to Twitter to call out Conservatives for sharing alleged 'fake meme' of him

Popular Canadian television personality Rick Mercer, is trending on Twitter after calling out the Conservative Party on Tuesday afternoon for all to see.

Mercer hit the Twittersphere after it was brought to his attention that a candidate from the Burnaby North Seymour Conservative Constituency Association shared an image that inaccurately quoted him.

The quote used in the photo was pulled from a popular "Rick's Rant" video published in 2011 where he encourages young people to vote.

While the majority of the words are accurate, the inaccuracy is found at the tail end, when the word conservative is added — leading folks to believe Mercer endorses the party.

The original post has since been deleted, but not before Twitter user @CatherinePope shared it with Mercer.

In response to the post, Mercer said that he assumes the photo is “just a straight up fake by the candidate” saying “Nope. Not real.”

Mercer also brought the initial tweet to the attention of Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer, asking him and the party to “please stop” distributing the meme adding that it is “not true” and “all fake.”
