‘Sinister souvenirs’: $1M worth of liquid meth found in Canadian snow globes

The Australian Border Force seized a large quantity of liquid methamphetamine concealed in some “sinister souvenirs” that were shipped in from Canada.

Officers in Sydney, Australia x-rayed the souvenirs and conducted testing on them. The liquid substance inside the seemingly innocent globes tested positive for methamphetamine.

The total value was estimated at more than $1 million, the border force said. The case was referred to the federal police for further investigation.

“Our officers work tirelessly to prevent these harmful drugs from making it into Australian communities, and I’m proud of the results they continue to achieve,” Danielle Yannopoulos, Australian Federal Police Commander, said.

“The ABF has invested heavily in our technological capability in recent years and we can see further into every package than ever before.

“Our officers continue to prove, time and time again, that criminals who attempt to hide these substances in new and imaginative ways are wasting their time. It doesn’t matter how clever you think your concealment is – we can find it.”
