Health Canada has issued a recall for two lots of TUMS tablets that “may contain metal fragments.”
The recall was issued on Thursday and pertains to products sold by Canadian stores and online retailers between October 2020 and January 2021.
“The company reported to Health Canada that it received a consumer complaint of a small metal wire fragment embedded in a tablet,” the recall explained.
“Consuming a metal fragment poses a potential risk of choking or injury (such as cuts or tears in the mouth and digestive system).”
One of the lots included in this recall is for TUMS Assorted Berries Extra Strength tablets sold in 750 mg bottles, which contain 100 tablets each.
The NPN on that product, which was sold individually and as part of Costco club packs, is 01967932 and the expiry date is August 2025.
The other affected lot is the same product, but told in packages of three rolls that contain eight tablets each.
They have an NPN of 01967932 and expire in September 2025.
Anyone who has these products should stop using them immediately and contact their healthcare provider if they have any concerns about taking them before this warning.
Health Canada said it will monitor the recall and continue to post new information if it arises.
