Last night the Humboldt Broncos GoFundMe officially closed with more than $15 million in donations.
The campaign went offline last night and will not be accepting any further contributions, however, it will remain live so that updates can be posted on the allocation of the funds.
The volunteer board expressed their gratitude for all the people who donated their time and money for the families and victims during this “dark and heart-wrenching time.”
The campaign received support from not only Canadians, but people from almost 60 countries around the world after the tragedy.
With donations in excess of $12 million, the Humboldt Broncos announced what would happen with all the funds with an announcement from team president Kevin Garinger on Monday.
The funds donated through the GoFundMe campaign will be transferred to a newly created non-profit corporation known as Humboldt Broncos Memorial Fund Inc to be allocated for the intended purpose.
An advisory committee is also being established to make a recommendation for the allocation of the funds, which will be held in a trust in the meantime.
