Thousands of items of furniture sold at The Brick recalled due to excess lead

Health Canada has issued an immediate recall after furniture sold at The Brick was found to contain a potentially dangerous amount of lead.

The warning concerns Lars dining furniture, including the Lars Counter Chair, Lars Counter Wood Top and Metal Base, Lars Tabletop Center Glass Insert, and Lars Counter Table.

“Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has determined that the black coatings applied to the legs and metal base of Lars Counter Wood Top table and Lars Counter Chairs contain lead in excess of the allowable limit established by the Surface Coatings Materials Regulations,” the warning reads.

It adds: “Lead is toxic if ingested, especially to children. A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system.

“In extreme cases, there have been deaths. Since lead builds up in the body, ongoing exposure to even very small amounts of lead can result in large amounts of lead being present in the body.”

More than 17,400 of the items were sold between June 2023 and July 2025, according to Health Canada.

Despite that, there have been no reports of incidents associated with the products.

Health Canada said anyone in possession of the furniture should immediately stop using it and get in touch with The Brick.

The department said the products were made in China.
