Winter is right around the corner which means more people are seeking out cozy, local coffee shops to visit with friends, making pit stops for a good cup of coffee in preparation for a day at SilverStar Mountain Resort, or looking to explore during their visit in Vernon.
Many people don’t know this, but Vernon is home to some of the most eccentric and high-quality coffee shops in the Okanagan that make amazing coffee with great vibes and outstanding service.
Here are four of the best coffee shops in town, as recommended by Tourism Vernon, that are essential to visit to truly get a feel for what Vernon has to offer.
Ratio Coffee & Pastry started out as a coffee cart on bike wheels, but now is one of Vernon’s most popular coffee shops, located in the historic Vernon train station. Passionate about bringing the community together with quality coffee and pastries, Ratio provides a welcoming atmosphere full of people who love good coffee and food.
The drink menu includes everything you can imagine while the food menu offers yummy lunch specials and baked goods. Chef Laurie creates mouth-watering donuts that are served every Friday for #DonutFriday. The menu gets released Wednesdays at 2 pm and it’s not uncommon for the donuts to sell out within hours of opening due to their immense popularity with regulars, Okanagan locals and tourists.
Ratio Coffee & Pastry is open Monday to Thursday from 7 am to 6 pm, Friday from 7 am to 4 pm, Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm and Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm. Pay them a visit!
Around since 1998, Bean to Cup are longtime community members and have built up quite a reputation for themselves.
The coffee shop is known for its extensive drink menu of house-made bean roasts and delicious specialty coffees. Better yet, they have expanded into an eatery serving breakfast, lunch and baked goods. Reviews rave about their heavenly dishes and diverse coffees that are guaranteed to satisfy your cravings.
The wonderful Bean to Cup is open daily from 7 am to 2 pm and offers a serene atmosphere for guests with plenty of indoor and outdoor patio seating.
A classic go-to is Bean Scene Coffee House. They specialize in dark roasts and serve “Bean Around the World” coffee, offering a number of unique flavours, all roasted in BC. They are always showing their support for local artists by featuring art throughout the shop that changes monthly.
Bean Scene Coffee House offers a very unique environment, especially in the spring and summer. The two-story shop features a bath swing on the top floor and a nature patio full of greenery, making for a beautiful photo-op.
Open from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Saturday, and 7:30 am to 5 pm on Sundays, the coffee shop is a great place to visit.
If there is one thing that sounds like a great way to spend the afternoon, it’s playing board games at a café with friends while sipping on a delicious latte. Thankfully, The Boarding House Café is the place for just that.
Offering over 200 games to play from old favourites to new creations, it’s a must experience. For only $5, you can stay and play any game you’d like while enjoying a drink and snack. Even if you don’t like coffee, there are milkshakes, smoothies and more available. The bakery makes fresh muffins, cookies and daily dessert features to enjoy such as Black Forest Cheesecake, among many other unique cake flavours.
The café is open 7 days a week from 9 am to 9 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm on Wednesday and 11 am to 9 pm on Sunday for a great game session with friends.
