Chinese medicine is a systems-based medical paradigm that focuses on balance, harmony, and our physical and emotional connection to the rhythms of nature.
It is a paradigm that sees the body much like a garden, with interconnected and interdependent systems all working together and all requiring cultivation and nourishment to thrive.
Dr. Andrea Hansen of Wild Roots Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Clinic specializes in acupuncture (nervous and circulatory systems regulation) and classical Chinese herbal medicine of the Han dynasty.
She diagnoses, treats and promotes the practice of life cultivation as a way to prevent disease, promote healthy organ function and alleviate stress and anxiety.
Through 15 years of post-graduate theoretical and clinical training in the Tien-Zeng lineage, Andrea has moved beyond basic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and into the more complex classical theory of Han dynasty texts and concepts of practice.
“The clinical application of these concepts makes Wild Roots’ treatments unique in Kamloops,” says Andrea.
“As a complementary medicine modality, Chinese medicine provides something people are looking for that they haven’t received before. My work is diagnosis and treatment, but the joy of my work is in the human experience, connecting with people, hearing their stories, and encouraging them on their path of life cultivation.”
Andrea, a fellow of the Institute of Classics in East Asian Medicine, started her work in Chinese medicine in 1998 at Kamloops Acupuncture Clinic, studied in Vancouver and Portland, and worked at clinics in Vancouver before returning to Kamloops and opening Wild Roots Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Clinic in 2007.
