3 missing after U.S. Navy aircraft crashes into the Philippine Sea

Search and rescue operations continue after a C2-A Greyhound belonging to the U.S. Navy crashed into the Philippine Sea on Wednesday.

At the time of the crash, there was 11 personnel on board the plane.

Eight have since been recovered and transferred to USS Ronald Reagan for medical evaluation, but three remain missing.

The U.S. Navy is continuing its search for the missing personnel with the help of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ships and aircraft.

The aircraft crashed into the ocean about 500 nautical miles southeast of Okinawa at approximately 2:45 p.m. Japan Standard Time on Wednesday.

It was conducting a routine transport flight carrying passengers and cargo from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni to USS Ronald Reagan in the Philippine Sea.

President Trump tweeted about the incident early on Wednesday morning, saying that the White House was monitoring the situation and sending prayers to all involved.

The incident will be investigated.
