60,000 people evacuated in Frankfurt Germany after discovery of WWII-era bomb

Police in Frankfurt Germany announced they have successfully defused a World War II-era bomb that was discovered on Tuesday, August 29th.

The air bomb was found during construction work on Wismarer Strasse in the Westend.

The bomb was an HC 4000 airmine, with 1.4 tons of explosives. Due to the size of the bomb, extensive evacuation measures had to be taken before officials could defuse it.

The evacuation radius for the planned defusal was 1.5 kilometres and affected 60,000 people.

The airmine was declared successfully defused by the Frankfurt Police at 9:31 a.m. on Sunday, September 3rd.
